What can you do with a large Northridge lot?

Daniels Landscaping works across Northridge, from the streets near the university up through the larger properties toward Porter Ranch. Turf, drought tolerant conversions, hardscape, retaining walls, irrigation, and lighting, all installed under one licensed contractor. The deep front yards here are where a low water conversion pays back hardest. Licensed at LIC #1138709. Northridge is one of the more generous parts of the Valley when it comes to space. The streets are wide, the front yards are deep, and north of Devonshire the lots open up considerably, with some properties still carrying the horse zoning and the ranch feel the area had before the tracts filled in. That extra room is an opportunity and it is also a bigger water bill if the whole thing is still lawn. The larger front yards here are the single best argument for a drought tolerant conversion anywhere in the Valley, simply because there is so much of it. A deep Northridge front yard planted entirely in grass is a lot of square footage to keep green through a summer that regularly runs over a hundred degrees. Converting most of it to low water planting, gravel, and decomposed granite, and keeping a smaller area of turf where it actually gets used, usually looks better than what was there and costs far less to run. The other thing Northridge has going for it is trees. A lot of these streets have mature canopy that has had fifty or sixty years to fill in, and that changes how we plan a yard. Established trees are worth designing around rather than clearing, since nothing you plant will replace that kind of growth. It also means parts of a Northridge yard are genuinely shaded, so the plant palette can be more varied than on an exposed lot further south. We work the whole area, from the streets around the university up through the larger properties toward Porter Ranch. Licensed at LIC #1138709, one licensed contractor throughout.
